چکیده

The knowledge of morphological relationships and particularly those concerning fish body girth (G) with total length (TL) is necessary in gear selectivity specifically the technical measures to avoid capture undersized individuals. This study concerns 24 marine species exploited by small-scale coastal fleet Aegean Sea (eastern Mediterranean Sea), for 6 which, TL-G are mentioned first time adjacent seas. Samples were collected seasonally, from April 2016 February 2017. coefficients linear regression three positions, (Geye, posterior eye; Ghead at end operculum; Gmax maximum depth), estimated each groups formatted when Geye, plotted against all combined. Statistically significant differences among detected (ANCOVA, P<0.001). Comparison length-body 18 previously studied different geographic areas seas, showed mainly results Portuguese waters certain populations. Based on resulted equations, (G max) corresponding Minimum Conservation Reference Size (MCRS) maturity (L m) calculated species. Identified mesh sizes respective G max values quite larger than minimum legal size gillnets inner sheet trammel nets, indicating that relevant current fisheries regulations cannot meet requirements sustainable exploitation resources.

Habitat Selection and Temporal Abundance Fluctuations of Demersal Cartilaginous Species in the Aegean Sea (Eastern Mediterranean)

Predicting the occurrence of keystone top predators in a multispecies marine environment, such as the Mediterranean Sea, can be of considerable value to the long-term sustainable development of the fishing industry and to the protection of biodiversity. We analysed fisheries independent scientific bottom trawl survey data of two of the most abundant cartilaginous fish species (Scyliorhinus cani...

Box Modeling of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Recently ( ) a new source of deep water formation in the Eastern Mediterranean was found in the southern part of the Aegean sea. Till then, the only source of deep water formation in the Eastern Mediterranean was in the Adriatic sea; the rate of the deep water formation of the new Aegean source is , three times larger than the Adriatic source. We develop a simple 3 box-model to study the stabil...

A Preliminary Study on Marine Litter in the Aegean Sea

Solid Marine Wastes present on the seabed and floating on the sea surface were investigated in the Aegean Sea. Compared to other locations in the Mediterranean, litter concentration on Northern to Mid Aegean Seabed is moderate even in populated gulfs, whereas floating marine debris concentrations are low and dominated by recreational items, probably restricted to summer season.
